Equestrian Photography FAQ's

Booking & Services

How do I book horse show photography or an equestrian portrait session?

•Booking is quick and secure. Simply choose your package, pay upfront, and your show date or portrait session is instantly confirmed online. No waiting on invoices or back-and-forth emails.

Do you photograph entire horse shows or just individual riders?

•Both. Riders can book private coverage, barns and trainers can book multi-rider packages, and show managers can reserve official event coverage with promotional media included.

Do you only shoot horse shows, or do you offer other photography too?

•While horse shows and equestrian portraits are my specialty, I also photograph families, seniors, professional headshots, branding sessions, and special events.

Where are you located, and will you travel to horse shows or sessions?

•I’m based in Texas and frequently cover shows across the state. I also travel nationwide for equestrian events, portraits, and special projects.

How far in advance should I book my session?

•Horse shows – Book as early as possible to guarantee coverage.

•Portraits/headshots – 2–4 weeks in advance is ideal.

•Weddings & multi-day shows – 3–6 months in advance is recommended.

•You can also book multiple shows or events at once for peace of mind.

Preparing for Your Session

How should I prepare my horse for photos?

•Treat it like show day: bathe, clip, brush, polish hooves, and clean your tack. A polished horse photographs best—editing cannot replace grooming.

What should I wear for equestrian or portrait sessions?

•Wear something that makes you feel confident and timeless.

√Equestrian portraits – Neutral or rich tones photograph beautifully with horses.

√Families/seniors – Coordinate 2–3 complementary colors rather than matching exactly.

√General tip – Avoid busy logos or distracting patterns.

~Optional: You may also book our in-house stylist for guidance (available at an additional cost).

My barn isn’t very pretty — will that ruin my pictures?

•Not at all. With creative lighting and angles, I can create stunning images anywhere. The focus is always on you and your horse.

Do you help with posing?

•Yes. I’ll guide you into natural, flattering poses whether you’re with your horse, your family, or doing headshots, so you’ll never feel stiff or awkward.

Specialty Sessions

Do you offer black or white background horse portraits?

•Yes. Both are available and must be arranged when booking, as they require a specific setup and posing approach. Black-on-black portraits (black horses on black backgrounds) are especially dramatic.

Can you photograph multiple horses, dogs, or a mare and foal together?

•Yes. For safety, animals are often photographed separately and then combined into a composite image. One composite of two horses is included in select packages; additional animals can be added as upgrades.

Do you do horse + rider portraits?

•Absolutely. Capturing the bond between horse and rider is one of my specialties—whether in the barn, arena, or a scenic outdoor setting.

During the Session

How long will my session last?

•Portrait sessions usually run 1–2 hours.

•Show coverage varies depending on how many classes, riders, or barns are booked.

Do you shoot natural light or bring lighting equipment?

•I primarily work with natural light but also use professional lighting when needed for consistency and polish.

Delivery & Products

When will I receive my photos?

•Portraits & branding sessions – 2–3 weeks.

•Horse shows – Galleries are usually posted within 2–3 weeks (depending on show size).

Rush delivery is available for an additional fee.

How are my photos delivered?

•Through a private online gallery where you can download high-resolution images, share them, and order prints or albums.

Do you offer professional prints, canvases, and albums?

•Yes. High-quality prints, canvases, metals, and albums are available directly through your gallery.

How many photos will I get?

•This depends on the package you book.

√Each includes a generous range of professionally edited images, with options to purchase more or upgrade with social media packages. Customization is always available.

Payments & Policies

Do you require a deposit?

What happens if I need to reschedule?

•Life happens! Sessions can be rescheduled with advance notice. Your payment will transfer to your new date.

Do you deliver RAW files?

•No. Only fully edited images that reflect my professional quality and style are delivered.

Do you license images for commercial or business use?

•Yes. Branding and commercial sessions include the appropriate usage rights for advertising, websites, and marketing. Please specify your intended use when booking. If you need extra help, I can also connect you with trusted professionals for websites, marketing, and branding.
